Femi Adesina, former Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, disclosed that Buhari’s survival during his presidency depended on seeking medical treatment in London rather than relying on Nigeria’s healthcare system.
Speaking on Channels TV, Adesina explained that Buhari’s frequent medical trips abroad were critical to his survival, citing a lack of adequate medical expertise in Nigeria.
Adesina noted that Buhari had consistently sought medical care in London even before his presidency, emphasizing that this choice was not merely preferential but necessary.
“He always had his medicals in London, even when he was not in office,” Adesina said. He argued that Buhari needed to prioritize his health to lead the country effectively, stating, “You have to be alive first to fix certain things in your country. If he had insisted on using Nigerian hospitals to prove a point, he could have died due to the lack of required expertise.
”On Tuesday, July 15, 2025, the remains of former President Buhari, who passed away on Sunday, July 13, 2025, at 4:30 pm in a London hospital after a prolonged illness, were transported from London to Daura, Katsina State, for his state burial.
A Nigerian Air Force aircraft, accompanied by Vice President Kashim Shettima, Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, and other officials, carried the late president’s body. Bashir Ahmad, a former aide, confirmed the details via his X account, noting that the body arrived in Katsina at noon, with burial rites scheduled for 2:00 pm in Daura.
The Federal Government declared July 15, 2025, a public holiday to honor Buhari, a former military head of state (1984–1985) and democratic president, known for his upright demeanor and roots in Daura, Katsina State.
The burial schedule shifted from Monday to Tuesday due to logistical changes, as Ahmad also confirmed on X.
